Pre-Historic England Tour

We offer guided tours of Pre-historic England of 3, 5, 7 or 14 days duration throughout the main tourist season. During the off-peak season we will happily tailor tours to your own requirements. In choosing one of these tours, you will be steeped in the mysteries that still surround many of our most famous pre-historic sites.

Together we will discover the inhabitants of this Island, from their emergence out of the ice age some ten thousand years ago, down to the coming of the Romans. You will visit many sites which are not part of the general tourist route, such as Grimes Graves in Norfolk, a pre-historic flint mine.

We will take you to the four corners of the British Isles, from the incredible pre-historic cemetery at Knowth near New Grange in Ireland, which is thought to be the site of worship of the mid winter solstice, to the world famous international heritage site of Stonehenge in England, considered to be the centre of worship for the mid summer solstice.

We shall see pre-historic burial sites such as West Kennet and walk along a pre-historic ridge way. Visit stone circles at Avebury and even stay in the village which nestles in the middle of this atmospheric and awesome site.

Our archaeologist has excavated on some of the sites which we shall visit and will be only too delighted to discuss the current theories of who built them and how, or why they were erected.

We will look at the role played by the Druids in Celtic life and on the mysterious isle of Anglesy (Mona) and discover why the Romans felt they had to wipe out this priestly and political caste. But did they? We will even try to work out why Geoffrey of Monmouth created the Arch Druid Merlin.

You will see some of pre-history's most puzzling sites such as Silbury Hill in Wiltshire, England's sole pyramid and the Uffington White Horse. Who created these and why?

At Colchester, you will learn of Boudicca's famous victory against the Romans. We will discover the the war-like nature of the Celts at Maiden Castle in Dorset and learn the castle's gruesome secret.

We will enjoy re-enactments and living experiments, as we progress through this huge time period, which will allow you to take a glimpse of how our pre-historic ancestors lived and died.
